Can we talk about the librarian in Dayton who showed me how to search newspaper archives for free?
I was trying to find an old article about my grandpa's diner that closed in 1978, and I kept hitting paywalls on every archive site I tried. The librarian at the Dayton Metro Library main branch showed me that most public libraries give you free remote access to newspaper databases with just your card number, no visit required. She pulled up a portal I never would have found on my own and we had the article in under 10 minutes. I had been searching for 3 weeks and burning through free trials like an idiot. She also showed me you can search by street address instead of name, which is huge when the business name changed over the years. Has anyone else used their library card for archive access like this, and are there other hidden databases I should ask about?
