Cost me 3 days to find a city ordinance from 1961 that Google swore didn't exist
Everyone says just search with quotes or add filetype:pdf and you'll find anything, but that advice flopped hard for me. I needed a specific rule on backyard chicken coops in my town, and after 2 hours of normal searching I had nothing but blog spam and dead links. So I went to my city's own site, found the meeting minutes archive, and dug through scanned PDFs from 1958 to 1965 until I hit the actual ordinance, which had been renumbered twice and never updated online. Then I used the Wayback Machine on a defunct county page to confirm it was still active, which took another hour. Does anyone else keep a personal list of local government databases that actually work, or am I the only one doing this the slow way?
