Tried to find an old microfilm article from a library in Dayton, ended up down a rabbit hole about newspaper OCR
I was hunting for a 1963 article from the Dayton Daily News that my grandpa mentioned. Regular search gave me nothing, so I tried the library's microfilm scan portal. The scans were searchable but the OCR had it as 'Dayton Dally News' the whole way through, so nothing matched. Switched to searching wildcards like 'Dayton D*lly' and the article popped up in 2 minutes. So now I always check the OCR's spelling quirks before giving up. Has anyone else run into bad OCR wrecking their search?
