My antique clock collection taught me about larkspur seeds, of all things
I fix old clocks as a hobby, mostly 1800s wall clocks. Took apart a Seth Thomas last month and found a tiny compartment with seeds stuck in the wood. Looked it up, larkspur seeds were used to keep moths away from the felt and gears. People think I'm nuts for keeping the seeds instead of tossing them, but it's a real piece of how these things stayed intact for 150 years. Now I grow larkspur in my backyard from those same seeds, three sprouts so far. Anyone else find weird original stuffing or packing in old mechanical stuff?
