Got a $2,000 quote to fix a leaky hose bib last fall

I was up at the cabin near Lake George and noticed water pooling by the foundation where the outdoor spigot comes through the wall. Called a plumber and he said we'd need to cut into the siding and replace the whole pipe assembly for two grand. Has anyone else dealt with a hidden outdoor leak like that where the fix was way simpler than what the pros claimed?

Doesn't the outside spigot usually just screw into a pipe inside the wall though? I had a similar issue at my place and it turned out the valve just needed a new rubber washer and some thread tape, cost me like $5 and 20 minutes. Sometimes plumbers try to upsell you on a full replacement when all you really need is a simple fix.

Shoot, I always thought plumbers were just upselling too til I actually had to watch one do it.
