Question about a random stranger who gave me life advice at a bus stop

I was waiting for the 7 bus in Portland last month and this older guy just started talking to me out of nowhere. He said I looked stressed and told me to stop trying to control everything because it never works. Then he showed me a photo of his dog on his phone and walked away. Has anyone else had a stranger give them advice that actually stuck with you?

Oh wow, that's a good one. I had almost the exact same thing happen to me a couple years back. I was sitting on a bench downtown having a total meltdown over my job, and this older lady just plopped down next to me and said "You know, the world doesn't end if you let one thing slide." She was knitting something, didn't even look at me. Then she told me about her cat who learned to open the kitchen cabinets and she walked off. I still think about that sometimes when I'm getting too wound up.

That bit about "the world doesn't end if you let one thing slide" really stuck with me too... it's funny how some stranger's random words can just hit different and change how you see things.
