Spent 4 hours troubleshooting a dead light fixture, it was just the switch

I was fixing up an old lamp in my living room last month, one of those floor models that's been in my family since the 80s. It wouldn't turn on no matter what I did, so I took it apart, checked the wiring, tested the bulb socket, even rewired a section. After four hours of messing with it, I finally realized the little switch on the cord had a loose connection inside. Clicked it back into place and it worked instantly. Has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on something that simple?
