Stuck between a $300 carpet cleaner rental and a $200 spot cleaner last month - which one actually worked?
Went with the rental from Kroger for the whole house but the spot cleaner my neighbor lent me did a way better job on the couch stains, has anyone had the opposite experience with these things?

Oh man I actually read about this somewhere, someone said the heat in the rental ones makes a huge difference for older stains. I used a Bissell spot cleaner from Walmart on my car seats and it pulled up stuff I didn't even know was there, but my friend rented one for her whole house and said the machine kept leaving too much water behind and her carpets took forever to dry. The spot cleaner is definitely easier for couches and small areas though, you can really focus on the bad spots without rushing.

Geez, is it really that big of a deal? I mean, I get wanting clean carpets but this sounds like a whole science experiment with heat and water levels. I just use a regular vacuum and some spray foam from the grocery store and it works fine for me. Maybe people are overthinking it a little bit, you know? Unless you've got like a major pet stain or something I don't see why you'd need to rent a whole machine.
