Switched from GPS to paper maps for hiking last spring after a scary moment
I used to rely on my phone GPS for trails, but after getting lost for 3 hours in the Smokies when my battery died, I switched to paper topo maps. Now I carry one and a compass, and I just feel way more prepared. Has anyone else made that switch and noticed a difference in navigating tricky terrain?

Oh man, I switched to paper maps too and now I just use them to find good snack spots.

Haha @richard_roberts80, next you'll be using them to find the best bathrooms on road trips. I swear paper maps have this weird power to make everything feel like an adventure, even snack runs. Just don't forget to fold it back right or you'll be lost in a different way.
