The one comment that made me stop over-editing my photos
I used to spend ages tweaking every slider in Lightroom on my vacation shots from a trip to Nashville last fall. A friend just looked at me and said 'you're making them look like a glossy brochure, not a memory.' I changed my whole workflow to just pick the right exposure and leave the rest alone - has anyone else had someone point out a bad habit in your editing process?

I understand what your friend was getting at, but I have to disagree a little bit about "glossy brochure." I spend time on my photos because I want to capture what I actually saw, not just what my phone decided to show me. If I shoot a sunset over the mountains and the camera washes out the colors, I'm not making it fake by bumping up the saturation a touch. I'm making it look like the real memory I have in my head. It's still a memory, just one that matches what my eyes actually saw that day.

Well, I think editing your photos to match your memory is exactly how you end up with those overly polished, fake-looking shots.
