Tried making my grandma's pie recipe from memory and the crust turned into a salty brick
My grandma used to make this apple pie that was unreal, but I never wrote down her recipe. Last weekend I tried to recreate it from memory and somehow put in a full tablespoon of salt instead of a teaspoon. The crust was basically inedible but the filling was okay, just really sad and salty. I learned that I should probably call my aunt and get the actual measurements instead of guessing from vague childhood memories. Anyone else ever mess up a family recipe by relying on your brain instead of a real recipe card?

I read a study once that said people mess up recipes by memory almost every single time.

Oh man I did the same thing with my mom's meatloaf recipe, used baking soda instead of baking powder and it was like eating a sponge.
