Drove 90 minutes to a dark sky spot near Moab and my tripod leg sank in the sand mid shot
I was 40 seconds into a 2 minute shot of the Milky Way when the whole thing tilted and I got a nice streak of star trails instead. Anyone else keep a bag of rocks in the trunk just for this, or am I the only one burying tripod feet like a weirdo?
Why would you bury the feet at all? Just spread the legs wide and keep the center column low. Sand is soft, sure, but 90 minutes of driving for one shot and you didn't scope out the ground first? A ziplock bag of pea gravel weighs almost nothing and fixes this every time.
