I always thought those star tracker mounts were a gimmick until I borrowed one last week

My buddy let me try his Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer for a night out at Joshua Tree. I figured it was just overpriced gadgetry for people who can't hold a camera steady. But after one 2 minute exposure of the Orion Nebula I was stunned. The detail was insane compared to my usual 15 second shots. My tripod is steady but I guess the earth's rotation really messes things up. Now I'm looking at prices and they're like $400 or more. Is the iOptron SkyGuider Pro better or about the same? Has anyone used both and noticed a difference?

Overpriced gadgetry" is right, how much clearer can a nebula really get?

Did your buddy try the iOptron and say it felt clunky?
