My telescope mount failed during a 3 hour timelapse of the Orion Nebula

The RA motor just stopped halfway through, and I lost all those 90 minute subs. I swapped out the batteries on the spot but the damage was done. Has anyone had a similar mid-session failure with a budget German equatorial mount?

Losing 90 minute subs is rough, but swapping batteries mid-run sounds like the actual mistake there.

Honestly I used to think hot swapping was fine if you were quick about it. But yeah, you're probably right, that's way more of a pain than just planning the shots better around battery life.
