Neighbor told me to skip the telescope tripod and use a camera mount instead
He's been shooting astro for 20 years and said my cheap tripod would wobble too much for long exposures. Borrowed his iOptron SkyTracker last weekend and my Orion Nebula shots came out way sharper than anything I got before. Has anyone else found that a mount matters more than the scope itself?

nah not exactly that the mount matters more than the scope itself, more like the mount is what lets the scope actually do its job. a good scope on a wobbly tripod is just gonna give you blurry stars no matter how fancy the glass is. but yeah your neighbor is spot on that camera mounts are way better for long exposures than cheap tripods, especially once you get past like 30 seconds. i'd say the mount and the scope are equally important, just in different ways. one without the other is kind of useless for deep sky stuff.
