That guy at the star party told me to stack my photos different and I called him crazy

Last month I went to a local star party out near Joshua Tree and this older dude named Rick kept insisting my Andromeda shots would look way better if I stacked fewer frames but used a higher ISO. I rolled my eyes because I watched like 10 YouTube tutorials and everyone says stack as many as you can and keep ISO low. Well I finally tried his method last week with 25 frames at ISO 3200 instead of my usual 120 at ISO 400 and holy crap the detail in the dust lanes popped way more. Now I feel like an idiot for arguing with him for 20 minutes while people were listening. Anyone else had some random stranger at a meetup give advice that actually totally changed how you shoot?
