Tried to capture the Milky Way for 3 nights straight, got clouds every single time

Drove up to Mount Pinos last week with my new camera setup. First night the fog rolled in at 9pm. Second night I waited 4 hours and the clouds never broke. Third night my neighbor's porch light stayed on until 2am and wrecked every long exposure. I got 12 blurry shots of a tree and called it a trip. Has anyone else had a run of bad luck like this or is it just my timing?

Ever tried using an app that shows cloud cover forecasts by the hour? That saved me after three straight weekends of getting skunked. I checked a clear sky chart before heading out last summer and found a two hour window where the sky would actually stay open. I packed light, drove up early, and nailed a decent shot of the core before the marine layer rolled in. It's not as romantic as just going for it, but it beats staring at fog all night. Now I only drive out when the forecast looks solid for at least a few hours.
