Was dead set against stacking filters until a buddy showed me his Andromeda shot with 3 stacked layers - who else thinks single exposure is still better?
I spent 2 years refusing to stack anything because it felt like cheating, but that single 30-second exposure of a galaxy versus his 2-hour stacked composite made me question everything.

It's like how everyone wants to make everything from scratch until you realize sometimes the best meals come from blending a few shortcuts together. Same thing with those pro chefs who use pre-made stock but still call it their own.

Realizing that most "homemade" things actually involve some kind of store-bought shortcut is like finding out nobody actually has it all together. Everyone's just mixing a little bit of ready-made with a little bit of elbow grease and hoping nobody asks too many questions. It's the secret sauce of getting anything done without losing your mind.

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I was the exact same way, thought stacking was basically admitting my single exposures weren't good enough. Then I tried it on the Orion Nebula and saw the difference in the dust lanes and faint outer gas. It's like comparing a snapshot to a proper portrait, both can be nice but one just shows you way more detail. Single exposures have that raw, honest feel but stacked frames let you actually see what's out there.
