Just realized my $12 chimney brush beats the fancy rotary one every time
I spent $80 on a rotary chimney cleaning kit from Home Depot last fall and it kept getting stuck on my flue tiles here in Decatur. Switched back to my old wire brush with some chains and a rope I had sitting in the garage. Took me maybe 30 minutes to run it up and down a few times versus fighting with the rotary for an hour. Has anyone else had better luck with the basic hand tools for this?

Decatur huh. I'm down in Macon. That sounds about right though. Were you dealing with a clay flue liner or a metal one? My clay liner has those offset tiles and the rotary brush caught on them bad. I ended up having to pull it back down and rerun the chain three times before I gave up. The wire brush with a weight on the end slides right through those offsets without a problem. Did you have to add a weight to yours or was it heavy enough on its own?

Three times? Man, I would've chunked that thing through a window.
