Three years of changing furnace filters wrong

I only realized last week that I've been putting my furnace filter in backwards since I bought this house in Decatur. The arrow was pointing toward the unit instead of away from it, and my AC guy laughed for a solid minute before showing me the dust buildup on the wrong side. Has anyone else made this dumb mistake?
