Worst summer I ever had with my AC unit in Decatur
Ngl, last July was brutal. My AC went out on a Saturday when it hit 98 degrees. I called three different HVAC guys and they all wanted $400 just to come look at it. Finally found a local guy who fixed a blown capacitor for $150, but I was sweating for two days straight. Has anyone else dealt with surprise AC failures in the middle of a heatwave?

I found a local guy who fixed a blown capacitor for $150"... man, I gotta push back a little here. That $150 is a deal on something that takes 10 minutes and a $15 part. Those $400 diagnostic fees are just the price of doing business now, and honestly I'd rather pay that than risk a guy who doesn't have insurance or a real license. Your capacitor fix was cheap because it was a lucky easy fix, but if that guy had to replace a compressor you'd be looking at thousands. I don't get why people complain about HVAC guys making a living when they have to drive trucks full of expensive tools and keep up with refrigerant laws and stuff. Sure it sucks to wait and sweat, but $400 to actually show up and diagnose something is pretty normal these days.
