Had to choose between a 4x4 and a 2wd utility ATV back in 2018
I was looking at a used Honda Rancher 4x4 for $3,200 or a brand new 2wd for $3,800. Went with the 2wd because I figured I'd save money and rarely need the extra traction. First time I hit a muddy trail near my buddy's cabin I got stuck twice in one afternoon. Should have just spent the extra cash up front.

Buddy of mine did the same thing with a quad back in '09... ended up selling it six months later and taking a loss. Always cheaper in the long run to just get the 4x4 from the start.

Used to be the guy who thought "ah, I'll just make do, save a few bucks upfront and deal with it later." Then I bought a used Jeep with a lift and bigger tires but no re-gearing. Thing could barely get out of its own way on the highway and off-road it was a dog. Traded it in three months later and ate the loss. That was a hard lesson. Graytorres' buddy's story sounds all too familiar, you end up paying more in the end either way.
