Overheard a guy at the parts counter say never mix ethanol gas in a small engine

He was telling the clerk about how ethanol gummed up his Can-Am's carb after one season. Made me think twice about using the cheap pump gas at the station down the road. Anyone else stick to premium just to avoid that headache?

...and that's exactly why I switched to running non-ethanol in my snowblower and weed whacker. Honestly, I learned the hard way with an old generator that sat for two months with cheap gas in it. Had to tear the carb apart and it was like someone dumped honey in there. Premium gas still has ethanol in a lot of places anyway, so I just look for the stations with the actual ethanol-free pump. It's a few cents more but way less hassle than rebuilding a carb every spring.

You mentioned "premium gas still has ethanol" which is true a lot of places, but some stations actually sell ethanol-free premium as their "rec fuel" pump. Have you run into any stations near you that clearly label which grade is the ethanol-free one?
