I watched three guys burn through a set of pads in one season at Hatfield-McCoy last fall because they never learned to engine brake and just rode the lever the whole way down.

Man it drives me crazy how people just don't learn the basics anymore. That same lazy approach shows up everywhere, not just on bikes. You see it driving cars, people riding their brakes instead of downshifting. Burn through pads and rotors twice as fast. Same deal with tools or anything else that needs a little practice. Nobody wants to take the time to figure out how something actually works. They just want to grab it and go.
