Pro tip: stop using the parking brake on your ATV after every ride

I was at a ride in southern Ohio last month and watched a guy spend 2 hours trying to free up his rear brakes because they were seized from rust. He told me he always set the parking brake after parking his quad in his damp shed. I never use mine unless I'm parked on a steep hill, and my 2015 model still has original brake pads. Anyone else seen this happen or just me?

Gotta say, leaving the parking brake on in a damp shed is asking for trouble, but not using it at all on flat ground is fine unless your quad's got a weak transmission that could roll.

Used to be in the camp that leaving the parking brake on all the time was the safe bet no matter what. Kinda figured if it's not engaged the quad could shift or roll in weird ways, especially on older machines with worn gears. But your point about moisture and corrosion makes total sense. Never really considered how much damage a stuck brake cable can do over a winter. Gonna start being more careful about when I actually use the brake now.
