Rant: I used to rebuild clutches in my gravel drive in Minot, now I pay a guy $40 to do it
I used to be the guy who did everything himself. Back in Minot around 2012 I rebuilt the clutch on my old 450 in the gravel drive with a buddy and a case of cheap beer, and it worked fine for years. Took us a Saturday and a half and I cussed the whole time, but I knew every bolt on that machine afterward. Now I don't even drain my own oil on the newer rig, I drop it at a guy off Route 2 who does it for $40 and calls me when it's done. Part of it is my back, sure, but mostly the newer machines have so many covers and clips and torque specs that I feel like I'll break something. Last time I changed a belt myself I pinched a wire and spent two hours tracing it. So I pay now. Feels lazy but the machine runs and I'm not sore for a week. I'm curious, how many of you still do your own wrenching versus paying someone, and what made you switch if you did?
