Read a forum post last night that said ATV tires are overrated for mudding

Guy was claiming any aggressive tire works fine if you know how to ride. I've been running mud tires for 8 years and I'm not so sure. Tried going through a nasty bog last spring on some worn out stock tires and got stuck bad. Swapped to some new ones and the same spot was easy. Has anyone else tested that theory or is it just internet talk?

@the_joel that comparison idea is good but I still think tread pattern matters way more than rider skill in deep mud.

Honestly, that sounds like something someone says after one lucky trip through a dry mud hole. I'm with you on the tire swap making a huge difference, but have you compared two sets of aggressive tires with the same tread depth side by side in actual deep slop? That might really show if it's the tire or just the rider.
