Rolling over my 450 in a mud hole, buddy says full throttle or bail. Which is right?

I was stuck up to the frame in a clay pit near Huntsville last Sunday and my riding partner yelled to pin it while another guy said to rock it out. I've seen both methods win and both sink you deeper, so is there a real rule for mud recovery or is it just whatever the machine can handle?
