TIL a raccoon can steal your entire lunch in 4 seconds flat

I was out on the trails last Saturday and parked my ATV to eat a sandwich by the creek. Turned my back for one second to grab a water bottle and a raccoon had the whole bag, sandwich and all, gone into the brush. Has anyone else had a critter clean them out mid ride?

And you know what the worst part is? That raccoon probably cached your sandwich somewhere you'll never find it, so you can't even get mad at the little thief for wasting it.

Is there any chance that raccoon will remember the spot and come back for it later, or is that sandwich just gone forever? In my experience, those little guys have pretty good memories for food stashes, so maybe you'll catch him checking on it some night. But you're right, it's like the perfect crime - no evidence, no waste, just a mystery sandwich rotting somewhere in your yard or attic.
