Took me 3 seasons to admit that my 4x4 was the problem

Bought a used utility quad two years ago in Spokane and blamed the mud tires, then the differential, then the cold weather for why it kept bogging down on hills. Finally pulled the front driveline and manual locked the hubs, and the thing climbed everything in my back 40 like it was nothing. Anyone else find that their stock drivetrain setup was actually holding them back more than any aftermarket part?

Different take here. Stock stuff is usually built for the average rider, not for what you're doing in your back 40. Most people who swap parts are chasing something their stock rig just can't do. Maybe your 4x4 wasn't the problem, maybe it was the way the front diff was engaging that whole time. But I've seen plenty of guys drop big money on tires and lifts only to find out their original setup was fine, they just needed to drive it different. Not saying you're wrong about your own machine, just saying the pattern I've watched for years tells me most people blame the bike before they blame their own habits. If you never pulled that driveline, you'd still be stuck blaming the mud. Glad you got it sorted though. That's what matters at the end of the day.
