Trail boss told me my tire pressure was killing my ride, he was right on the money

Last month at a group ride near Moab, this old timer walked up and asked why I was running 12 psi in my stock tires. He said that was fine for mud but terrible for the slickrock we were hitting. I dropped to 8 psi in the rear and 7 up front, and the difference was night and day on the climbs. Has anyone else gotten a similar setup tip from a stranger that just completely fixed your handling?
