Warning: I put a 1 tooth smaller front sprocket on my 400EX and it backfired on the trails
Everyone said going down one tooth up front would wake up the low end, so I tried it on my 2001 400EX before a ride at Hatfield McCoy last month. Instead I lost so much top end that I was screaming in third gear on every fire road and the motor felt buzzy the entire trip. Has anyone else gone smaller on the front and actually liked it, or did you just bump the rear sprocket instead?
