Wheel spacers on a sport quad, yay or nay for trail riding?

I ran spacers on my 2019 450 for 2 years thinking wider meant more stable, but after a muddy trip in Hatfield-McCoy I noticed the bearings getting sloppy and sand grinding in there. Turns out most spacers push stress onto the hubs, plus the steering got heavy and twitchy at speed. So which camp are you in, spacers for cheap width or stock width for less wear?

Tbh that's like putting lift kits on trucks, looks tougher till stuff breaks.
