Bought a $300 paint thickness gauge on a whim, now I only use it for rust checks
Picked up one of those digital gauges off a tool truck last month. Turns out my eye for orange peel is better than the readout. Has anyone else dumped cash on a gadget that just sits in the drawer?

Man, that's exactly the kind of purchase I'd make. Mine's a cheap laser level that I bought for one shelf job, now it just collects dust next to the old batteries. At least the rust checks give you an excuse to poke around the fenders.
