Finally gave in and used a stud welder on a door skin, glad I did

Been pulling dents with a slide hammer for years, thought stud welders were overkill for the small stuff. Took a job on a 2016 Civic door in Columbus last week and decided to try it, honestly saved me like an hour of filler work. Anyone else avoid certain tools for a long time then wonder why they waited?

Slide hammer does the same job if you know what you're doing. Stud welders just put more heat into the panel and warp thin metal like that Civic door if you're not careful. Plus you gotta deal with the pin tips breaking off and grinding them down, that's extra time right there. Pulling a dent with a slide hammer is more control, less cleanup, and you don't need to buy a new tool for something you already fixed fine for years. Maybe you were just looking for an excuse to buy a shiny new toy.

Ever notice how nobody talks about the glue puller being the real middle ground here, no heat at all and it's way faster than a slide hammer on those shallow dings... just saying.
