That old-timer's probably forgotten more about trucks than most of us will ever know. @the_jesse nailed it about asking about the 78 F-150, those guys live for that stuff.

Brother, that NAPA old-timer is a goldmine of real-world knowledge. Next time, ask him about the carburetor on a 1978 F-150 if you want to hear a story that'll take an hour and solve three different problems you didn't know you had. They've seen the same part fail a thousand different ways (and a hundred different fixes) so their advice beats the Haynes manual every time. Just don't ask about modern electronics unless you want a speech about how "these newfangled computers ruined everything".
