Had a quarter panel buckle on me last Tuesday and I am still mad about it
So I had this 2016 Silverado in for a rear quarter repair after a parking lot hit, insurance paid out about $1,400 for the job, and I figured it was a straightforward pull and fill. I got the stud gun out and started working the dent, and about 20 minutes in the whole panel just oil canned on me, buckled right along the body line where I was least expecting it. Turns out there was old filler in there from a previous shop, thick too, maybe a quarter inch in spots, and the heat from my studs just let it all go. I stood there for a good five minutes with the slide hammer in my hand just staring at it. Ended up having to cut the outer wheel arch off and weld in a patch panel, which turned a two day job into almost a full week. My boss was cool about it but I could tell he was doing the math on the labor. Has anybody else run into hidden filler sabotaging a pull like that, and do you guys probe panels before you start or just send it like I did?
