Hit 200 paint jobs at our shop, number 200 was a color mismatch nightmare
Been keeping a log of every job I've painted since I started at this shop in Phoenix. Last Thursday rolled in as job 200, and it made me pay attention. It was a 2018 Civic in that pearl white. Customer said it was hit in a parking lot, wanted just the rear bumper done. I got the code, sprayed a test card, matched it under the lights and in the sun. Looked perfect. Laid down the base, cleared it, let it flash. When I walked it out into natural light next to the car, the bumper was a full shade pinker. I've done maybe a dozen pearls before, but this one got me. Turns out the original paint has been fading for 5 years, and no test card is going to show that. Had to blend into the quarter panels and re-clear the whole side. Took an extra 3 hours. So that milestone number 200 taught me a lesson I should have learned a long time ago. Always check the adjacent panels before you even mix paint, not after. Anyone else have a job number that bit them out of nowhere?
