I actually think paying for a cheap paint job is a waste of money every time

Took a 2005 F-150 to Maaco in Portland three years ago and the clear coat started peeling before I even hit 10,000 miles. Ended up spending $2,800 at a local guy to strip it all off and start over - how many of you have gone the cheap route and regretted it later?

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean, it's a 2005 F-150, not a Lamborghini. A little clear coat peeling just gives it that patina look, lol. People pay extra for that 'barn find' aesthetic so maybe you dodged a bullet and saved some cash for a few years. Plus, how bad was the paint actually peeling - like full on alligator skin or just some spots near the edges?

Heard a buddy's Silverado did the same thing and the whole hood went.
