Just realized my old boss in Sacramento was right about my clearcoat blending
He said my passes were too slow, making the edge too heavy... I sped them up by about 30% and the blend lines vanished. Anyone have a different trick for a smoother fade?

Yeah that overlap tip from @holly_craig is key. I found that doing it on a slightly wider area than the blend zone itself makes the fade way less obvious. It just softens everything out without leaving a hard line.

Try overlapping your passes a little more than you think you need. It helps spread that edge out so it doesn't build up in one spot. That combined with the faster speed usually gets it done for me.

Funny how the simplest advice is often the hardest to take. My uncle swore by a lighter touch on the final pass, almost like you're not trying to cover anything. It made a huge difference on his old truck.
