PPG clear coat orange peel fix, cheap and dirty

Baked a fender in my booth last Tuesday and got brutal orange peel, looked like a golf ball. Tried wet sanding with 1500 and it still felt like sandpaper under my fingers. Then an old timer in Detroit told me to hit it with a heat gun after the final polish, just a quick pass, and it laid down flat like glass. Cost me nothing but a few minutes, saved me having to reshoot the whole panel. Anyone else use heat to shrink peel on a fresh clear, or am I crazy?

Laid down flat like glass" is the same trick I've seen with wood finishes and even old furniture paint. Heat just lets the top layer flow out again, seems like every coating has a second chance if you catch it in time.
