Stopped using masking tape on trim edges and my paint lines finally look sharp
For years I taped off door handles and mirrors with regular masking tape and always got fuzzy paint edges that needed a razor blade cleanup. Now I use 3M fine line tape on anything curved, and last Tuesday I pulled a perfect line around a quarter window on the first try. What are you all using for tight curves where even fine line tape wants to lift?
Used to have the same lifting problem on the curved edges of fender flares, drove me nuts. What finally worked for me was just going way slower and pressing the tape down in small sections with my thumb, like an inch at a time instead of trying to lay the whole strip at once. Sounds dumb but the tape actually stays put when you do it that way, the heat from your hand kinda helps it grab. Also wiping the surface with alcohol first made a big difference, turns out a lot of my lifting was just dust and old wax. Curves are still a pain but at least I'm not chasing edges with a razor anymore.
