Was 15 years into dent pulling before a painter called me out

Been doing this since 2008, always used a slide hammer for deep creases. Last Tuesday a painter I respect walked by my bay and asked why I was stretching the metal thin instead of using a stud welder and puller. Watched him fix a tricky door dent in 4 minutes with just heat and a tab puller. Now I'm rethinking everything I learned in the early days. Anyone else have a senior guy make you change your whole approach on something basic?

Old guys always have a shortcut you've been missing your whole life.

@olivia573 I mean yeah, some older guys have good tips, but not all of them are right about everything. My uncle taught me how to sharpen a knife with a coffee mug, which is actually super handy. But he also told me you should never wash a cast iron skillet with soap, and that's just not true anymore with modern soaps. A lot of those "shortcuts" are just habits from a different time that people assume still hold up. It's worth checking their advice before you just go along with it, outdated methods can actually mess things up sometimes.
