A customer's throwaway comment made me ditch my foam cannon for good

I used to be all about the foam cannon, like half the guys in here probably are. Got a nice one from Chemical Guys last fall, thought it was the only way to do a proper wash. Then this older guy with a classic Mustang came in, watched me foam his car down, and said, "You know that's just for show, right? The real work is in the two bucket method." At first I wanted to argue, but let it sit in my head. Tried his way last weekend, just a good pH neutral soap and a microfiber mitt in the bucket. Honestly, the foam cannon was making me lazy, I was relying on the foam to do the work instead of actually agitating. The paint on my own Honda came out way cleaner, no water spots either. Anyone else ditch a fancy tool because some random customer or friend said something obvious?
