Detailer at the shop said my two bucket method was garbage, he was right

I've been washing cars with two buckets and grit guards for like 5 years, thought I was doing it perfect. This guy at the local shop in Tampa watched me wash my truck and pointed out I was dragging the mitt across the bottom of the rinse bucket, basically rubbing grit back into it. He said to dunk and lift straight up, no swishing, and I tried it last weekend on my black F150, no new swirls at all. Anyone else get corrected on something they thought was basic, and actually see a big difference?
