Tar spots laughed at me for 3 weekends straight

Picked up a used Camry in Tacoma for my nephew and the lower panels were covered in tar and sap. I tried bug remover, clay bar, even some kitchen degreaser, nothing touched it. Spent 6 hours one Saturday scrubbing and it still looked like a dalmatian with a bad paint job. Finally grabbed a dedicated tar remover spray and let it sit for 5 minutes, then it wiped off like butter. Has anyone else wasted a full evening on the wrong product before finding the obvious fix?
