A $40 scan tool I laughed at beat my $900 one on a Ford

I always thought cheap OBD2 readers were junk, but I picked up that little blue one from Harbor Freight on a whim last week. A guy at the shop had a 2015 F-150 with a weird EVAP code that my big Snap-On scanner kept misreading, and that 40 buck tool nailed it down to the purge valve in three minutes. The wiring diagram printout it made was clunky but clear enough for me to trace the short. Now I keep it in my drawer for second opinions, no shame about it. Anyone else had a budget tool surprise them on a specific make?
