I had a 2013 Civic in the bay last Tuesday with a rear caliper bracket bolt that would not budge, even with a breaker bar and a cheater pipe. I soaked it in penetrating oil for an hour, tried heat from a torch, and still nothing. My boss handed me a can of CRC Freeze-Off he picked up at the NAPA on Grand Ave for about $6. I hit the bolt for 15 seconds, waited 30 seconds, and it broke loose with a normal ratchet on the first try. The stuff chills the metal fast, which shocks the rust bond apart. I have used it on three more rusted bolts since then and it has worked every time. Anyone else using freeze spray on rust, or do you have a better trick for those old caliper bolts?
