Caliper rebuild vs. replace, what changed your mind over the years?

Back in 2005 I'd rebuild seized calipers all day, new seals and a hone job for like $15 a corner. Now I won't touch a rebuild unless it's a classic car, the cheap aftermarket units are $40 and the cores aren't worth the time. But I see younger guys in the shop who swear rebuilding is the only way to keep OEM quality, and they've got a point about the piston coatings. My last rebuild on a 2012 F-150 lasted 8 months before the slide pins froze up, while a $65 reman has gone 3 years without a hiccup. Is it just me, or did the quality of rebuild kits drop off that hard after the 2000s? Anyone else flip from one side to the other on this debate?

Wait, were the slide pins part of the actual rebuild kit or did you reuse the old ones?
