Torque wrenches are so hit or miss these days.

Actually, a torque wrench shouldn't be taking that load, it just measures it. The failure was probably in the breaker bar or socket if the wrench itself broke, which is wild for a new tool. Sounds like a serious defect or it was way over its rating.

My old click-type Craftsman from 2010 is still perfect, but I bought a new digital one last year and it was junk right out of the box. I totally agree with calebm75, the wrench itself shouldn't snap under normal use. It makes me think vera482 is right about quality being a total gamble now. I had to return two of them before I just gave up and went back to my old reliable one.
